For Sale: White Underwriter Golden Touch Home Mark With Matching Carrying Case Made Around 1957

Price $400 SOLD!

When I first saw this typewriter, I thought it was going to be a cheap portable that I'd end up listing for around $200.  But once I started working on it, I realized I was way off.  This machine is small and portable, yes, but it's got all the adjustments you'd expect in a desktop... and it's a LOT more solid than most portables.  I you're looking for a small footprint but want a strong, working machine, this one is perfect.

The white color is not a paint job.  This is how they sold them.  What's remarkable is how FEW they sold.  I searched and searched and couldn't find many of them out there.  I wonder if this was some sort of prototype for something that would come down the line later--and then maybe got canceled.  Perhaps it was too expensive to make.  That would be my guess, considering that this is the beginning of the era where everything being manufactured gets cheapened.

Another odd thing about this typewriter is that there are spaces and structural spots for features that never got added.  For example, there's a bracket on the left side, under the top cover for a touch control setting... but there's no touch control.  You can even dig down into it and see where other parts would have been added, but weren't. (notice they call it a 'Golden Touch'... yet the touch control doesn't exist)

This is a great machine, there's not a lot of them out there, and it's in extraordinary shape.  Well worth the $400.

If you're in Cincinnati you can pick it up or I'll deliver it for free, along with giving you a quick training session on how to use the old manual typewriters.  If you're outside Cincinnati area, choose the option with the added $30 for shipping.
