I get several calls per week from people who want to sell their typewriter. Sometimes it's an old heirloom, sometimes it's just something they found in the attic, sometimes it's a machine they picked up at a flea-market... but they all have one thing in common--they understand that the machine has some value to it and don't want to see it in the trash.
Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to purchase old typewriters. Even if it's in great shape and would be a valuable collector's piece. I just don't have the cash.
However, if you plan to get rid of it anyway, I would propose myself as an alternative to a Goodwill donation. Yes, I plan to sell it (just as Goodwill would). But I won't 'flip' it. Every donated typewriter that comes my way gets extensive work. Even if it's in great shape, it still undergoes AT LEAST a 5 hour restoration process. Usually much more.
And I wish I could send money to the people who have donated such machines... but it's just not possible. I apologize for that.
SO--If you want to donate your machine, and rest assured that the machine will not go straight to the trash (or be torn apart for key-cutting crafts) you can drop it off to me at any time. I have a drop-box on my porch at 3752 Darwin Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45211. You can put it there, or, if it's too heavy for you to lift, call me and arrange for me to come out to your car and pick it up.
Except IBM Selectrics. I will take those, but I don't restore them. Any Selectrics I get go to scrap metal.
