This unit is a lot like the Brother SX 4000 (I sell a lot of those) except it's a little more substantial. If your typewriter is in a more permanent position, then this would be just a little bit better, where as the Brother is more portable.
You can use the screen on the front of it to type out an entire sentence, making corrections when you need, and then only printing that sentence once the return button is pressed, or you can turn this mode off, and the typewriter will print each letter as you type. Of course, with the erasing mechanism, you can correct typos even after they've been printed.
