In the sixties, Royal was nearing its end. Yes, they continued to produce and sell something, but their special internal engine was about to become extinct. And this is one of the last professional office typewriters that it produced. To be honest, out of all of the models, I believe this one LOOKS more professional than all others. And it's a nice, sturdy, heavy machine.
Notice the extra long carriage. You could load pages up to 16" long on this one. I imagine the long carriage was to type on things like sheet music, and maybe newspaper proofs? Even legal sized paper can be loaded in sideways, but I can't think of a reason for that.
I've gone through the machine thoroughly, and it's ready for hard work.
Just remember that it's big--it will fill a lot of space, and even more so because the carriage has to move back and forth. What I'm getting at is make sure to have enough desk space, and make sure the desk is sturdy.
If ordering outside the Cincinnati area, there'll be an added $45 for shipping (the wide carriage makes it a little more difficult and hence a little more expensive to ship this one). If you're local, call me and set up an appointment, and I can give you a full demonstration, along with a crash-course on using manual typewriters.
